Slow Down

by James Brewer-Calvert

The Slow Down Café sits in the heart of Andes,
A village of 300 salt of the earth folks in the Catskill Mountains in New York.

The Slow Down Café is well named:
Folks drop in, have some hot tea or fresh brewed coffee,
a visit with friends and strangers alike, touching base,
drawn by the need we all have to connect with one another.

When we break bread and share a beverage,
Whether with loved ones dear to our heart or a new soul we have just met,
Time stops.

We are caught up in the moment and experience kairos,
The spiritual dimension in which meaning not minutes count.

At the Slow Down Café, people make the time and effort to stop and listen.

When we listen, when we open ourselves to the words being spoken,
Words we can hear with our ears as well as our hearts,
We receive the greatest gift of all: words to speak.
